The Catholic Diocese of Umuahia joined their counterparts today to celebrate father’s day as the Catholics globally await the emergence of a new Pope .
The ceremonies which saw fathers dressed in their special uniforms witnessed the Elderly men perform as mass servants.
Preaching a sermon at St Michael’s Catholic Church Ugwunchara Umuahia, Abia state, to mark the day, Rev Fr Isaac Egbuta Uka of spiritual year seminary, Ozu Abam charged fathers to be good shepherds of their families.
Fr Egbuta Uka reminded fathers that they have the responsibility of ensuring the proper moral upbringing of their children and stressed the need for embracing prayerful life led by the Head of families.
He regretted that many fathers have abandoned their natural responsibility of bringing up their children as well as leading the family and reminded them that judgment regarding the roles played as heads awaits them at the end.
While noting that Fathers pass through a lot in the course of training their children, the Catholic Priest urged them not to relent in showing love to their families, stressing that being alive requires the living to take up their natural responsibilities as a way of thanking God for preserving them.
The service featured presentation of gifts to the church by different groups of the Catholic men organization of the Parish.
