Thousands of Mourners file past Pope’s Coffin

Thousands of Mourners have been filing past the coffin of Pope Francis which will stay in front of the Papal Altar during the three days of public mourning.

Pope Francis’s body is now lying in state in St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican before his funeral on Saturday.

Reports say thousands have been queueing to see Pope Francis lying in state as they enter basilica to pay final respects to Pope.

Crowds stream in on both sides of the square, in calm and orderly queues to see Pope Francis lying in state in the basilica with people walking up to the Pope’s body in his simple casket, pay their respects with some kneeling and others crossing themselves and slowly move on.

According to the reports, the whole area around the Vatican has begun to feel far busier, with increased security and checkpoints around the square and a heavy police presence.

Tourists and pilgrims especially – Catholics from around the world including groups from the UK, the US Zimbabwe among others are said to be among early sympathizers lining up for the rare event.

Priests, Nuns and other people of all ages, including young children are among admirers at the square.
