Terrorism Sponsorship : Hon Ogah calls for Special Adhoc Committee

The Member Representing Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, has called on the leadership of the National Assembly to set up a Special Adhoc Committee to investigate the activities of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Nigeria.

Hon Ogah whose call is coming amidst growing concerns about the role of NGOs and CSOs in Nigeria, particularly in the Northern region while making his submission at the floor of the house during plenary, opined that the Special Adhoc Committee will be tasked with investigating the activities of NGOs and CSOs in Nigeria, with a particular focus on those operating in the Northern region.

According to him, the Committee will also examine the sources of funding, operations, and impact of these organizations on local communities, as well as their compliance with Nigerian laws and regulations.

In his words, “The investigation will aim to answer key questions, including:

1. What are the sources of funding for NGOs and CSOs operating in Nigeria?

2. What are the operations and activities of NGOs and CSOs in the Northern region?

3. What is the impact of NGOs and CSOs on local communities in Nigeria?

4. Are NGOs and CSOs operating in compliance with Nigerian laws and regulations?”

Recall,  there have recent allegations that some NGOs may be involved in illicit activities, including sponsoring terrorist groups such as Boko Haram, and this has raised serious questions about their operations and impact on local communities.

A US Congressman had recently accused the USAID of allegedly sponsoring Boko Haram.
