A veteran Journalist and renowned Sports Writer, Chief Sunny Ogele has been nominated by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, for special recognition for his contributions to the development of the body.
In a letter to Chief Ogele endorsed by the Secretary General of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo the Association explained that the event which will be held on the 31st October, 2025 at the VIP lounge, Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja is part of the activities slated to mark its Diamond Jubilee ( 60 years) anniversary.
SWAN, while recognizing the pioneering role played by Chief Ogele in building the Association, said the honour is an appreciation of the sacrifices he made in ensuring excellent sports reportage in the country despite the existing challenges.
Chief Sunny Ogele, a former Vice Chairman of the Abia State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, had served SWAN at various levels including: National Deputy President and National Treasurer as well as midwifed many national and State congresses.
The Veteran Sports Writer is also fondly remembered for Chairing the last two Constitutional Committees that amended the SWAN Statute.
An indigene of Amaokwe Item in Bender LGA of Abia State, Chief Ogele who made his mark at the sportsdesk of the Abia Newspapers, publishers of the National Ambassador, retired as a Director in the State Ministry of Sports.
