#FreeMaziNnamdiKanuNow: Socio- economic activities paralysed in South East

As the #FreeMaziNnamdiKanunow protest continues in Abuja this Monday (20/10/25), reports say the entire South East stood still as social and economic activities were paralyzed in all the States.

From Abia, the home state of the detained leader of the indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, commercial activities were totally absent in the two cities of Aba and Umuahia.

In both cities Banks , schools and most public offices remained closed as commercial transport operators refused going out for their business before 10am.

Strategic busy roads remained deserted while markets and shops closed for business in solidarity with the campaign and for the fear of the unknown.

In Anambra State, our correspondent in Awka reports that people decided to remain indoors while everywhere was calm.

The same was the situation in the commercial nerve cities of Onitsha and Nnewi where shops and markets remained under lock and key.

Early morning reports from Enugu say major streets in Enugu were deserted as residents stayed indoors, though no official sit-at-home order was declared.

According to the Hanto Daily News correspondent in Enugu, Banks, schools, fuel stations and markets were closed, leaving the city unusually quiet.

In Owerri , the Imo State Capital , Streets were also reported deserted, with Markets and stores locked.

In Okigwe and Orlu noted for their strict observance of the Monday sit-at-home order, there were no form of movement as residents remained indoors for the fear of any emergencies.

In all the cities of the states only a few vehicular movements were noticed with the few pedestrians that ventured out of their homes trekking to their destinations.

As at the time of filing this report, there were no reported cases of any clash between civilians and security agencies in most states as their presence was not heavy.

Meanwhile, there was a peaceful protest later in Umuahia on Monday, as youths singing pro-Nnamdi Kanu songs, marched around the capital city and native home of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to demand the release of detained leader of IPOB.

The peaceful protesters who marched down to the busiest area of Umuahia known as Isi Gate, also headed to Corporative area with placards beating the inscriptions such as ” Federal government, obey Court order” , “Tinubu restore peace and security in South East” among others.
