Supreme court sacks Abure , reinstates Nenadi Usman

The legal battle on who is the authentic National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) is now over as the Supreme Court has set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Abuja recognising Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Party .

The apex court, in a unanimous judgment on Friday, any the five-member panel held that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to have pronounced Abure National Chairman of the LP having earlier found that the substance of the case was about the party’s leadership.

The court held that the issue of leadership was an internal affair of a party over which courts lacked jurisdiction and noted that Abure’s tenure had since expired.

The court therefore granted the appeal filed by Senator Ester Nenadi Usman and one other and dismissed the cross-appeal filed by the Abure faction of the LP for lack of merit.

The judgment will put to rest the attempt by external influence to instil an unending crisis in the party whose acceptability widened following the nomination of its 2023 Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi.
