Stakeholders threaten to recall Abia House of Assembly Member

A group of Stakeholders in Arochukwu State Constituency in Abia State have announced their decision to initiate the process of recall of their representative in the House of Assembly Hon Uche Okoro over allegations of corruption and violent conduct.

Speaking under the aegis of Arochukwu Equity Forum, on Tuesday, the Chairman of the forum, Chief Nicholas U Kalu and the Secretary, Hon Lady Nnuona Okereke Izuogu, threatened to activate the process of recall of the majority leader if he refuses to resign in the next one month.

According to them, the alleged embarrassing conduct of their representative has brought shame to all of them.

They regretted that since the scandal broke out, the House member has not deemed it fit to apologise to the people of Ututu over the issues surrounding the commissioning of the non-functional borehole.

While stressing that the majority leader has failed to address the scandal of the allegation of publicly engaging in a violent physical altercation over the sharing of money, they described the denial by the member he attacked is an afterthought.

They revealed that consultation has started in all the wards in the Arochukwu local government area for the collection of signatures as a prelude to triggering off the recall process, adding that a petition would soon be sent to the anti corruption agencies to probe the allegations of corruption against the House of Assembly member.

Hon Uchenna Okoro Kalu, who serves as the Majority leader, is alleged by the group to have commissioned a nonfunctional borehole in Amaebem Ututu, two weeks.

He was also accused of allegedly engaging in a violent confrontation with another member of the Assembly over alleged sharing of money said to have been doled out by Gov Alex Otti as claimed and reported by Sahara Reporters.

Meanwhile, attempts by Hanto Daily News to reach Hon Okoro Thursday morning proved abortive as his line was not reachable as declared by the service provider’s recorded voice reply.
