There are indications that Rivers State may not get over the current crisis as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the reconstitution of a new membership of the State Independent Electoral Commission, (RSIEC).
The appointment was contained in a Special Government Announcement issued this Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika named Michael Odey as the new Chairman of the electoral body.
Other members include, Mr Lezaasi Lenee Torbira, Professor (Dr) Arthur Nwafor, Professor Godfrey Woke Mbgudiogha, Professor (Dame) Joyce Akaninwor, Dr (Mrs) Olive A. Bruce and Professor Chidi Halliday.
The unrelenting Rivers State Sole Administrator had earlier approved the appointment of administrators for the 23 Local Government Areas of the state despite a Federal High Court order restraining him from making the appointment.
The order issued by Justice Adam Muhammed on Tuesday in suit no. FHC/PH/CS/46/2025 filed by PILEX Centre for Civic Education Initiative led by Courage Msirimovu against the Sole Administrator in his official capacity was thought to have suspended the action but was glaringly disobeyed.
