Rivers Police Command denies allegation of withdrawing Judge’s Orderly

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed allegations made by the Society for Rule of Law in Nigeria (SRLN), alleging that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, withdrew the police orderly attached to a female judge who recently delivered a judgment against the Nigeria Police Force.

Clarifying the situation, the Spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, explained that the officers attached to the judge were not withdrawn as an act of retaliation but were redeployed for election duty in Anambra State.

The Rivers State PPRO made it clear that the redeployment was part of a routine operational assignment that affected multiple officers across different units, and not targeted at the particular judge.

Iringe-Koko therefore urged the public to disregard the circulating report, describing the allegation as lacking credibility and misleading.

She reiterated that the Rivers Police Command, under CP Adepoju, remains committed to upholding the rule of law, due process, and professionalism in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

The SRLN, had in a statement issued last Friday by its coordinator, Dr. Chima Ubeku, described the situation as worrisome and an abuse of power, calling on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter and ensure the immediate restoration of the judge’s security detail.

Recall, the controversial judgment, referenced as Suit No. PHC/1785/CR/2024, discharged and acquitted 12 accused persons standing trial for the alleged murder of a female police inspector in Taabaa community, Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The development generated public interest due to the sensitive nature of the case and its implications for justice and security in the region.
