The Umunneochi local government area says it is aware of the rumours of the uncivilized, fraudulent, unethical, and unwholesome attitude of some selfish politicians in Umunneochi local government area, who are nocturnally moving into peoples houses, compelling innocent and unsuspecting members of the public to present their Voters Cards, Voters Cards Numbers, and their National Identification Numbers, (NIN), with the empty promises such as accommodation, rice and money.
A release endorsed by the Mayor of the council area, Chief Sunny Afurobi states that some of these selfish politicians use town criers to summon people to venues for this exploitative harvest.
The release therefore enjoins the people of Umunneochi to shun such brazen antics as they are both illegal and against the rules of engagement.
It further calls on the people to resist such an attempt from anybody working by himself/herself, or through their agents, collaborators or representing any master(s).
“It is instructive to note that anybody claiming any form of influence or popularity over others should do that in a legitimate way, especially, through performances and accountability in any public office the person is occupying, therefore soliciting for votes through appeals during elections.
“We will not fail to resist any form of criminality, including; Vote buying, intimidation, or any other form of pre-election manipulations, which suggests obtaining through false pretense or forward electral frauds.
“Our people should be guided not to yield to the ploy of deceiving them to sell their votes for peanuts during elections, and suffer heavy starvation of democratic dividends shortly after elections.
“I therefore encourage you all to keep your Voters Cards and other personal details safe, secured, and use the same wisely to vote for performance, and credible candidates who will work for our collective interest, and not those that will deceive and extort the innocent electorates and disappear afterwards,” the release assures.
The release also encourages Ndi Umunneochi to report such requests of collecting your voters cards and other personal details by anyone to the security agencies or relay such information to the Mayor for decisive action.
