Contrary to speculations in the media space, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed talks suggesting he will soon leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking with Newsmen after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, the Governor cautioned that meetings across party lines should not be misinterpreted as plans to defect, pointing out that national issues sometimes demand cooperation beyond party boundaries.
In a direct answer to whether he was considering a move away from the PDP, Makinde emphatically answered saying, “No, no, no. I’m comfortable in the PDP.”
Governor Makinde insisted that dialogue with leaders from other parties should not be twisted into defection narratives, adding that his focus remains governance and national stability.
The visit raised the unusual eyebrow and suspicion following recent altercations between the Oyo Governor and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose on political issues regarding the 2027 polls with each taking different views on the Bola Ahmed Tinubu presidency.
