Over 35 boxing talents among whom are a specially talented young female Boxer Ani Precious Chioma and a male counterpart, Agbo Chinedu Jeremiah were discovered by the unrelenting Ex international Boxer Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo as he inaugurated the boxing team of Enugu Smart Green School in preparation for the Speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Uche C. Ugwu Grassroots talent hunt and the Smart Green School sports festival.
Speaking on the occasion at Smart Green School Owo, the Director Experential Learning Enugu State Smart Green School and Special Adviser to Enugu State Governor on Education innovation, Dr Chinyere Onyeisi, lauded the Enugu State Government for its interest in the development of Youths through Sports.
Dr Onyeisi particularly commended Governor Peter Mbah for providing the conducive atmosphere and funds for the development of sports as well the Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt Hon Ugwu for his unrelenting love for the growth of boxing in the State.
The Special Adviser noted that the new move will create opportunities for the Youths and project the State in good light and assured that they will ensure the total success of the competitions.
While appealing to the Ex international Boxer, Mazi Okoronkwo to increase his training visits to the Smart school that has shown enthusiasm, she thanked Mazi Okoronkwo for the efforts in bringing Enugu State to the limelight.
Dr Onyeisi commended the zeal and talents exhibited by the Students and expressed confidence that future boxing Stars will emerge from upcoming competitions slated to hold in March and April this year.
In an interview with Hanto Daily News, Mazi Okoronkwo who also donated HPE Books to the school restated his desire to promote the growth of boxing in Enugu State and assured that everything is being done to ensure the success of the two competitions.
The finals of the Speaker Enugu House of Assembly Rt Hon Uche C. Ugwu Grassroots boxing talent hunt competition holds from 10th – 17th March, while the Smart Green School sports festival will take place on 3rd April.
