A former Commissioner for finance in Abia State and University Lecturer, Dr Phillips Nto has congratulated a former Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emelike Okoro who just turned 80 years today.
In a release he personally endorsed, Dr Nto described the former SSG and former Head of Abia ADP as an elder Statesman who is among the rare breed of privileged few who, through the grace of God, have attained this age .
The former Provost Abia State College of Education Technical, Arochukwu noted that while in the public service, the outspoken Elder Statesman impacted positively on millions of people, including himself, through his exemplary conduct of honesty , fearlessness, integrity , courage and above all speaking truth to power.
“Indeed, I can not forget the life lessons you taught me when I was the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in Abia state. Your pieces of advice were invaluable. Your candid analysis of the political dynamics of those days assisted me greatly. Thank you Sir.
“Your sterling performances as the Programme Manager of Abia ADP and Secretary to Abia State Government, have continued to inspire my generation to see public office as a platform to serve God and humanity and thereafter impact lives positively.
“In the agricultural sector, you have been a towering giant , imparting knowledge effortlessly and generally being a beacon. You have influenced so many people in this field. Your days at ADP with the numerous World Bank projects you executed remain indelible. I am glad that the Agricultural Society of Nigeria recognised your numerous efforts with a deserving award.
“But it was in politics that you showed like a million stars. Although you were content to be a kingmaker, your role during the turbulent period preceding the last governorship election in Abia state will never be forgotten. Your insistence on the implementation of the Charter of Equity, your principled stance on justice, your unwavering commitment to the stability of Abia State, have made you a legend. I am proud of you,” Dr Nto remarked.
The former Finance Commissioner made it clear that he will continue to hold Dr Okoro in higher esteem and wished him on behalf of his wife, Dr Chioma and staff of Agribusiness Incubation Centre, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, memorable 80th birthday anniversary.
