Gov Fubara Assures That Creek Road Market Will Be Ready January 2027

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, says he is satisfied with the pace of work at the construction of the Creek Road Market in Port Harcourt.

Answering questions from news men while inspecting the project on Friday, Governor Fubara assured that the 700-capacity facility will be completed by January 2027.

He described the market as a strategic intervention to relocate street traders, ease traffic congestion and restore environmental order in the Old Port Harcourt Township.

The first phase of the market comprises about 700 stalls and shops, with designated wet and dry sections designed to accommodate traders currently operating along Creek Road and adjoining streets.

The Governor explained that the relocation of traders to the new facility would enable SETRACO, the contractor handling road rehabilitation in the old township, to complete the resurfacing of Creek Road, which has been hindered by street trading.

The Governor praised the contractor for the quality of work delivered so far and assured that the state government would address funding concerns to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Beyond providing a more organised trading environment, Governor Fubara said the market would help improve sanitation, reduce environmental and health risks, and restore the Old Port Harcourt Township to its cherished status as a clean and orderly city.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to projects that promote the health, wellbeing and economic activities of Rivers residents.
