Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has flaged off the reconstruction of the 12.6 Kilometer Ohanze-Ntighauzo-Umuoha- Oberete-Akirika Obu Road which cuts across many communities in Obingwa and Ukwa East Local Governments and also connects Abia to the neighbouring Akwa Ibom State.
Speaking while flagging off the road project at the Orie Agalaba Junction, in Obingwa LGA, Governor Otti described the road as strategic, pointing out that on completion, it will promote economic activities in the area.
The Governor who titled his speech, “Still On The Crusade To Connect Our Communities” further said that the abandonment of the road for several years by past administrations, speaks to the profound neglect that the part of the state has suffered over decades.
While stating that the project aligns with his administration’s development vision for the expansion of Aba, he expressed committment to expanding the urban boundaries of the Enyimba city by extending quality infrastructure to the outskirts to increase the appeal to prosperity and investment.
The state chief executive announced the grand development plan of his
administration for the greater Aba urban corridor and the State at large , adding that such would not be accomplished if the State does not generate sufficient revenue and encouraged the people to promptly pay their individual and business taxes to enable government fund projects.
In his goodwill message, Senator Darlington Nwokocha noted that Governor Alex Otti has through matching his words with action brought integrity and dignity to Governance and urged benefitting communities to take ownership of the project to ensure its timely completion and durability.
In an address, the Commissioner for Works,Mr Otumchere Otti while noting the strategic nature of the road, described the project as an eloquent testimony that as a renowned economist , Governor Alex Otti is aware that infrastructural development remains the bedrock of socio-economic growth and prosperity of any society, disclosing that the road will be completed in 12-months time.
In their remarks, the Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu and his Petroleum counterpart Prof. Joel Ogbonna, assured that the project marks a new beginning for greater democracy dividends for Akirika Obu people of Ukwa East and expressed the hope that the ongoing Ohanku road will be extended to Ukwa East LGA.
In their speeches, the mayor Obingwa LGA Mr Maxwell Nwadike, his Ukwa East LGA counterpart Mr Chibunna Akara and Mr Peter Azubuike while expressing the joy of their people noted that the Governor has shown the vision and passion to leave all segment of Abia better than he met it.
In his speech,Eze Nwabiarije Eneogwe said traditional rulers and other leaders in Obingwa are pleased with the developmental strides of Governor Alex Otti across the 17 LGAS of the state in the spirit of “Onye aghala nwanneya” and called for the fixing of the Abayi -Umuokoroato -Umuoro -Ntighauzo road to boost Agricultural and economic activities in the area.
