The wave of defection from the Peoples Democratic Partyb(PDP) in Akwa Ibom State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) expected to bring Joy to the Ruling party has turned awry in one of such events held in Ukanafun local government area.
Sources say Mr John Monday Marcus, the APC chairman ward 2 in Ukanafun local government area, was reportedly been killed in a bloody fight with faction of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within APC in the area.
According to sources, trouble started when a popular politician from the ward who recently defected to APC in the ward donated money to the party to appreciate grassroot leaders but the APC ward chairman hijacked the cash while PDP members resisted before fight ensued .
Eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said even APC members were annoyed by action of the late ward chairman and descended on him as they smashed his head using broken bottle resulting in free for all fight at the venue of the meeting .
“The action of the deceased infuriated the old APC faithfuls who descended on him and smashed his head with bottle and he died on the spot.”
Meanwhile, the Ukanafun chapter publicity secretary of APC, Hon Stanley Sunday Peter in a statement made available to Journalists in Uyo has described the death of the late John Monday Marcus as not only a shock to the party members in the ward but has also the entire APC family in area and beyond.
The statement noted :
“Late John Monday was a committed party loyalist, he was known for his unwavering dedication to the growth and unity of the APC in the ward.
“He played a pivotal role in mobilizing support for the party in past elections and was widely respected for his humility, discipline and selfless service to the party and his community.”
The remains of the late John Monday Marcus have been deposited in the mortuary.
Reacting to the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the incident and assured that the police will carry out investigation on the matter.
” Yes we are aware of the incident and investigation is ongoing to bring perpetrators of the crime to book,“ the PPRO assured.
