The Abia state government has set up a committee to develop an Industrial policy that will drive the industrial development of the state.
Announcing this while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu noted that the new industrial policy will help attract investors and more development to the state.
He added that the industrial policy will equally help the state to market its potentials as well as strengthening its comparative advantage in various areas of resource availability and management.

The Information Commissioner disclosed that in line with the ongoing urban renewal and transformation initiative of the state government, the state government has initiated “an addressing infrastructure programme” aimed at enhancing street naming, house numbering, and geo-reference addressing that will ensure order and economic growth of the state for easy identification of structures.
He also announced that the state government has concluded plans to commence the execution of its recently launched 25-years long-term development plan with emphasis on addressing different aspects of governance.

He said that In view of the importance that the state government attaches to the program, the three development areas of the state, including the Greater Aba Development Authority,GADA, Umuahia Capital Development Authority,UCDA and Greater Ohafia Development Authority
GODA are expected to own the project with plans to appoint a project manager to help manage and drive projects.
Prince Kanu also informed that during the period under review, the state Ministry of Works embarked on direct labor works in 49 locations with 3 new roads completed while work is ongoing on 31 different work locations contracted across the state.
He noted that about seventy seven thousand, seven hundred and seventy four persons have accessed the services of the pilot phase of the Abia state shuttle Buses launched on the 22nd December,2025.
Answering questions from journalists,the Commissioner for Transport Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu dismissed claims that the Green Shuttle Electric Bus Service has started collecting transport fare from passengers, reveling that Abia will continue its free services till the end of february.
