Abia Schools To Resume September 14, Govt Demands Strict Compliance

Public and a private primary and post primary schools in Abia State are to resume on Monday, September 14, 2026, for the First Term of the 2026/2027 academic session.

Abia State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in a rejease endorsed by the Commissioner, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi disclosed that the First Term will run for 13 weeks with the following key dates:

According to the release, Mid-Term Break for the term begins on Monday, October 27 and ends on Friday, October 31, 2026, while the Closing Date is Friday, December 11, 2026.

As contained in the release, the first term holiday will last till Sunday, January 3, 2027.

To this end, the statement directed all Principals of public schools, Heads of schools, and Proprietors/Proprietresses of private schools to prepare for resumption.

“All teachers are by this announcement informed to report to their duty posts accordingly,” the statement said.

It further advised Parents/Guardians Parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards return to school on the resumption date as teaching and learning will commence immediately.

The release also charged school heads to ensure compliance and maintain standards for effective service delivery.
