Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine has again proven himself to be a generational Fighter and undisputed heavyweight boxing Champion as he overcame the Gypsy King, Tyson Fury of Great Britain to remain unbeaten and retain the unified heavyweight titles with another close points win in their rematch in Saudi Arabia.
In the highly explosive and tactical encounter at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, all three judges scored it 116-112 to the 37-year-old champion.
Usyk who retained his WBA (Super), WBC and WBO titlesbhas now extended his undefeated record to 23 pro wins.
Speaking after the historic fight, the Ukrainian Boxer said, “He [Tyson Fury] is a great fighter, he is a great opponent. An unbelievable 24 rounds for my career. Thank you so much.”
Fury, Two-time world champion who has only ever lost to Usyk left the ring without conducting an interview, before IBF world champion Daniel Dubois climbed in and called for a rematch with Usyk.
According to BBC reports, a visibly frustrated figure in the moments after the scorecards were read out, Fury said backstage he was convinced he won the fight by “at least three rounds”.
Promoter Frank Warren was quoted as saying, “I’m really disappointed. We’ll have to see what happens in the future for Tyson. I thought he was in control, boxed really well and had Usyk on his back foot.”
