Realizing his roots as a full blooded Igbo, Nigeria, Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has requested the Club to officially acknowledge his Nigerian heritage by incorporating ‘Chinazaekpere’ into his name.
Reports from Soccernet.ng reports say the 20-year-old, who joined United from Italian side Lecce for £25 million in January, now wishes to be recognised as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu across all club records, including team sheets and official documents.
The parents of Dorgu who has made instant marks in the Red Devils team hail from Nigeria and his name ‘Chinazaekpere’ which translates to “God answers prayers” reflects of his faith and personal identity.
Born in Denmark, Dorgu who developed through the youth ranks at Nordsjaelland before securing a move to Lecce, where he gained valuable experience in Serie A now plays for the Danish Senior National team.
The attack minded versatile defender, earned his first senior cap for Denmark in September 2024, marking his debut against Switzerland with a goal just 42 seconds after coming on.
During the recent Nations League fixtures, he played a vital role in Denmark’s campaign, providing an assist for Christian Eriksen in a 5-2 defeat to Portugal.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have implemented his request and formally recognize him as Patriotic Chinazaekpere Dorgu.
