Abia loses prominent Traditional Ruler

The Traditional Ruler of Isuochi Ancient kingdom and the longest reigning Monarch in Umunneochi Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Eze Sir Dr Godson Irononso Ezekwesili, Ochi1 of Isuochi has joined his ancestors.

The death of the 88 year old popular Royal Father who was enthroned in the 70s was announced in joint statement issued by the family and Isuochi Community Development Association, ICDA.

The statement signed by his first son and former member Abia State House of Assembly, Prince Ikedi Ezekwesiri and the President General ICDA, Chief Engineer Ochiagha ORJI- says initial mourning period in honour of the revered King begins this Thursday 27/3/25 and will last for three weeks.

According to the statement, dates for other burial and funeral rights will be announced later.

Tall and Charming, Late Eze G.C. Ezekwesiri whose reign brought a multitude of blessings to Isuochi Clan and prevalence of peace was a former member of the Abia State Council of Traditional and has held various positions through which he served his community, Local Government and Abia State.

The statement reads:

With utmost sense of duty and pains in our hearts, but with total reverence and submission to the will of God almighty, the president -General, the executives of ICDA, in conjunction with the palace of the ochi 1 of Isuochi  formally announce the passage of HRM, EZE SIR (DR) GODSON IRONONSO EZEKWESIRI OCHI 1 OF ISUOCHI  to rest with the greats and saints triumphant.

The date for the commencement of burial rights and funeral will be announced later.

An initial mourning period is hereby declared for  *izu lato* effective today 27/03/2025
