The Coordinator of the PBAT Door to Door Movement in Rivers State, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, says the major interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in Rivers State, will give the President a strong basis to seek the support of Rivers people in the 2027 election.
Briefing journalists after an expanded executive meeting of the PBAT Door to Door Movement in Rivers State on Friday in Port Harcourt, Ogunwole noted that the meeting also witnessed a major restructuring of the Movement’s leadership across the state, with him emerging as State Coordinator and Bro. Tammy Soberekon as Deputy Coordinator.
The exercise also affected some State, Senatorial District, Federal Constituency and LGA Coordinators, as well as women leaders in some LGAs.
According to Ogu, the meeting also focused on how members of the movement could take the message of President Tinubu’s administration directly to the people and explain the impact of his policies and projects across the state.
Ogu said the movement would use a door-to-door approach to engage Rivers residents, highlighting what he described as the administration’s achievements in the oil and gas sector, the Ogoni re-entry, infrastructure, education and other areas.
Ogu identified the planned return of oil exploration activities to Ogoni as one of the major developments he believes will influence the views of Rivers people towards the Tinubu administration.
He noted that Ogoni has remained largely inaccessible for oil exploration for decades and argued that renewed activities could create employment opportunities while also stimulating businesses and economic activities across the area.
“Let me tell you, when there is a re-entry in Ogoni, a lot of Rivers people will be employed. And because Rivers people will be employed at a macro level, then the micro level; small and medium-scale businesses and the grassroots, will also be empowered,” he said.
He also pointed to the newly established Federal University of Environment in Ogoni, saying the institution would attract students, workers, businesses and other economic activities to the area.
According to him, the presence of thousands of students and other members of the university community would create a wider economic impact beyond the institution itself.
Ogu further cited activities around OML 58, the UBETA gas project and the second phase of the ASA gas project, describing them as evidence of increased attention to the hydrocarbon industry.
He argued that increased production and investment in the sector could have significant economic implications for Rivers State, particularly through employment, business opportunities and increased economic activity.
The Rivers coordinator also listed the removal of the petrol subsidy among the major policies of the Tinubu administration.
While acknowledging the impact of the policy, he commended the Federal Government for developing cheaper alternatives, particularly through gas-powered transportation and other initiatives aimed at reducing dependence on petrol.
Ogu also spoke in favour of state police, arguing that stronger security structures at the state level could improve the ability of the security agencies to respond to security challenges and restrict the movement of criminals across state boundaries.
Ogu used the opportunity to commend the founder of the PBAT Door to Door Movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo whom he described as a leader passionate about the development of the Niger Delta.
He thanked Tompolo for providing the PBAT Door to Door Movement platform and praised his leadership and contribution to activities in the region.
Ogu specifically referenced Tantita Security Services, saying the company under Tompolo’s leadership had contributed to efforts to protect oil infrastructure and support increased crude oil production.
He described Tompolo as a result-oriented leader whose achievements, according to him, have strengthened the confidence of members of the movement in their own mobilisation efforts.
“Our leader, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, is a result-oriented leader. Whatever he puts his hands on succeeds, and so we are going to get success in this goal of re-electing President Tinubu,” Ogu said.
Ogu said the movement’s next phase would focus on grassroots engagement, with members expected to visit communities and speak directly with residents about the projects and policies they believe have impacted Rivers State.
He said the movement had resolved to make its advocacy more convincing by presenting what it described as the tangible benefits of the Tinubu administration, particularly in the oil and gas sector and other areas affecting the state’s economy.
Ogu maintained that developments such as the Ogoni re-entry, investments in the hydrocarbon industry and the Federal University of Environment could create opportunities for employment, businesses and communities across Rivers State.
He said the PBAT Door to Door Movement would therefore continue its mobilisation across the state as it seeks to build support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The restructuring, according to the Movement, is aimed at strengthening unity, cohesion, inclusiveness and productivity while bringing fresh ideas and renewed energy to its activities ahead of the 2027 political season.
Members also described the exercise as a demonstration of their willingness to place the collective interest of the organisation above personal interests, expressing renewed confidence in the ability of the new leadership to build a stronger and more coordinated structure across Rivers State
