Reports from Awka, the Capital of Anambra State say a three-storey building collapsed on Wednesday.
The building, located near Diamond Pizza, opposite Five Star Eatery, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Awka, which was at the roofing leve was said to have collapsed around 5:25PM and wii no loss of life in the incident.
A resident of the area who witnessed the incident, pointed out that there were a series of thunderous sounds heard and before people rushed out to know the cause, the building had collapsed completely.
According to reports timely rescue operations started immediately with the pulling out victims from the rubble with the help of Passersby and commuters.
The victims were rushed to a nearby hospital while the Officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) have visited the site of the incident and constituted a panel of inquiry to determine the remote and immediate cause of the collapse.
In another development the joint security operatives in Anambra State have launched a major raid on a suspected hideout of gunmen and kidnappers at Enugwu-Agidi, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The operation led by the State Government’s security outfit, Operation Udo Ga-Achi, stormed the area around 1 a.m., with many of the hoodlums reportedly fleeing the notorious base with injuries.
According to reports, cache of weapons and other items were recovered and they include two AK-47 rifles, eight pump-action guns, four locally made pistols, three packets of cartridges containing 101 rounds, four empty AK-47 magazines, three cutlasses, a Baofeng radio, a motorcycle, and several charms.
One gunman who was arrested in the intelligence inspired operation, is presently helping in further investigations.
The Operation Udo Ga-Achi troops reportedly carried out the raid in collaboration with the police, Department of State Services (DSS), military, and other security agencies.
Recall, since the launch of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi Strike Force by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, some criminal camps have been dismantled across the state.
