Those who trade loyalty for expediency rarely escape the judgment of the people – NNPP reminds Gov Yusuf

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has described the exit of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the party, as a betrayal of the political trust placed on him by supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

In a statement this Saturday (24/1/26) endorsed by the National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, the Party pointed out that Governor Yusuf’s claim that the NNPP was suffering an “irredeemable crisis,” was after thought.

The NNPP insisted it had remained stable and operational, noting that the recent internal and electoral milestones by the party are proof that the party was not in any form of collapse as claimed by Governor Yusuf.

The party reminded the public that its leadership structures had recently been renewed through congresses held across the country, beginning from the ward level and culminating in a national convention held on December 20, 2025 with Governor Yusuf present at the event that also attracted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) .

The party further reminded Governor Yusuf that the people of Kano had always rejected such a wave of defection, pointing out that Governor Abubakar Rimi lost the 1983 governorship election to Mallam Aliyu Sabo Bakin Zuwo, while the bulk of lawmakers who followed him reportedly failed to secure re-election.

“History has consistently shown that those who trade loyalty for expediency, and honour for deceit, rarely escape the judgment of the people,” the party noted.
