As the world marks the World Day for the prevention of and healing from child sexual exploitation, abuse and violence, the Oluebube A. Chukwu Foundation, OACF, has challenged the government to strengthen child protection laws.
In a statement to mark the occasion, the OACF also enjoined the authorities to invest in social services, ensure justice is swift and the enforcement of punishments for offenders are as well as create safe reporting channels that truly work for children.
The Foundation pointed out that the government, family and community play vital roles in prevention of and protection from these dastardly acts.
According to the body, Communities and families must stay vigilant, educating one another, speaking up when something feels wrong, and building safe, supportive spaces where children are believed, protected, and empowered.
“No child should ever have to endure such pain, and no family should ever have to carry its long-lasting wounds. Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a loving environment where they can grow freely and without fear.
“We remember the survivors whose strength inspires us, and we hold space for those still healing. Their pain must never be ignored, and their stories must guide us toward stronger protection, deeper compassion, and zero tolerance for any form of abuse.
“Their bravery calls us to build stronger systems of care, better reporting mechanisms, and compassionate spaces where healing is possible. Their experiences must inspire meaningful and swift action, not silence.
“Protecting children is not the work of one person, it is the responsibility of all of us,” OACF noted.
