Some National Assembly Members collected N200 million bribe to approve state of emergency declaration – Obasanjo insists

As controversies continue to mount over the approval of the state of emergency in Rivers State, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has insisted that some Nigerian lawmakers received ₦200 million,
as gratification before performing that function.

The reaffirmation of the allegation by Obasanjo came again at a public engagement, despite denials from certain members of the National Assembly.

The former President maintained that some legislators personally admitted to receiving the funds and dismissed any attempts to dispute his statement.

According to him, the assertion was based on firsthand accounts from lawmakers themselves.

Obasanjo, known for his outspoken stance on governance and accountability, challenged those disputing his statement to provide evidence to the contrary, arguing that not all beneficiaries might publicly acknowledge the payments.
