As reactions continue to trail Abia State Government’s recently signed Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with WIOCC, an ICT and broadband company, the Senior Special Assistant to Abia State Governor on Due Process and the Head Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Dr Oluebube Chukwu has assured that the deal would serve as a turning point in the socio-economic development of the state.
Interacting with Newsmen journalists in Umuahia, Dr Chukwu commended the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, over the MoU which will see the installation of fiber optic Internet connectivity across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State.
He pointed out that the broadband would enable businesses to automate processes, reducing manual labour and increasing productivity, adding that it would also enhance collaboration, as with fast and reliable internet, teams can collaborate more effectively, regardless of location.
According to him, the broadband initiative would open up new business opportunities, enabling entrepreneurs to start and grow online businesses, thereby creating new job opportunities as well as attracting businesses, investments to an area and stimulating local economic growth.
Dr Chukwu who further noted that the initiative would Improve education and skills development, stated that with access to online resources, students in local areas will have access to a vast array of educational resources, adding that it would offer Abians the opportunity to skills development through online courses and training programmes that would increase their employability.
On the expected influence on the healthcare sector, the Due Process Boss assured that the sector would receive a boost with healthcare providers providing remote consultations and services and improving healthcare outcomes.
Dr Chukwu, however, called on Abians to support the laudable initiative by the present administration to reposition the state, maintaining that support from citizens is needed to make the project realistic.
