In what appears to be a bold step towards acting like an unbiased umpire, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, this Friday (19/12/25) held a closed door meeting with the factional leadership of the two groups of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Reports say the meeting, held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, wax summoned by the INEC chairman to put things in order ahead of the FCT area council elections and those of Osun and Ekiti states scheduled for next year.

Leading the faction with the remaining serving PDP Governors and the majority of former NWC Members to the meeting was Tanimu Turaki elected in the recently concluded controversial national convention while the Nyesom Wike empowered group was headed by Samuel Anyanwu that still operates as the National secretary of the party.
According to reports, the INEC Boss in his opening remarks stated that the meeting was summoned to try to understand why the commission was receiving correspondence from two groups claiming leadership of the PDP.
Journalists were later directed to leave the meeting hall after the opening remarks resulting in a closed door meeting between the the stakeholders.
As at the time of filing this report, the outcome of the meeting is yet to be made public.
