The Governor Alex Otti, Soccer Competition, has kicked off in Umunneochi, with many communities participating.
Addressing the participating teams shortly after the kick off ceremony held at Umuaku Secondary School field, Isuochi, the Mayor, Umunneochi Local Government Area, Chief Sunny Afurobi, pointed out that the competition is aimed at fishing out budding talents and to meaningfully engage the youths for greater productivity.

The Mayor urged them who enjoined them to see the fiesta as a means of developing themselves announced that Umunneochi Local government area, will be organising Secondary Schools football competitions that will be for both male and female footballers, stressing that he is highly interested in developing female football.
Chief Afurobi therefore applauded Governor Alex Otti, for initiating the competition and creating directions for youths and the Umunneochi Local Government Coordinator of the Competition, Chief Frank Obinna, for his commitment towards achieving success
He therefore promised to continue his support for the soccer fiesta while praying for injury free outings.
In his vote of thanks, the Coordinator, Umunneochi Soccer fiesta, Chief Frank Obinna Obi, while thanking the Mayor for all his support and for giving him the opportunity to serve, assured that he will do everything possible to see that the competition is fair, unblemished, and acceptable.
The opening match which was between the Ezingodo ward and Lokpaukwu ward ended 5:4 on penalties in favour of Ezingodo , after a 1:1 full time scores.
Meanwhile, in thebday two match of the day, Mbala Achara Ward secured the three maximum points by walking over Ubahu/Akawa/Aroikpa ward, who could not turn up for their game.
The Councillor, Amuda ward, Hon David Mba, his Mbala Achara ward colleague, Hon Chukwubiko Ofoegbu, the Orientation Officer, Umunneochi local government area, Chief Darlington Ohia, and a Labour Party Stakeholder, Architect Chief Uche Obi, were among those that graced the event.
