The powerful declaration of integrity and transparency by Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti that not a single kobo of the state’s resources will be misappropriated under his administration is a testimony of how zealous he is in serving the interest of the people. Speaking at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Eastern Nigeria Union Conference Headquarters in Aba, during the 4th Pastors’ Kids Association Convention 2024, Governor Otti reaffirmed his commitment to stamping out corruption in Abia State.
Governor Otti’s strong stance on corruption was delivered in the presence of a large congregation gathered under the theme, “Advancing the Gospel in a Digital Era.” The Governor emphasized that his administration would maintain an unyielding stance against any form of theft or mismanagement of public funds. He made it clear that those who attempt to siphon the state’s resources will find no room to operate under his leadership.
“In our administration, corruption and stealing are forbidden. So, when you see or hear people making noise in the media, it’s because they are unable to continue to feed fat on resources that belong to all of us. I can assure you that under my watch, Abia resources, not even one kobo of it will be stolen,” Governor Otti declared, receiving resounding applause from the audience.
The Governor called upon all citizens, particularly those in positions of influence, to lead by example and uphold the highest standards of integrity in their daily lives. He urged everyone to remain steadfast in the face of criticism, underscoring the importance of living a life that reflects true moral values.
“I challenge all of you, in your own little corner, to lead by example and don’t worry if people criticize you,” Governor Otti said, encouraging the attendees to stand firm in their convictions and continue to set a positive example in their communities.
The Governor also addressed the conference theme, emphasizing the need to balance the advancement of digital technology with the enduring belief in divine guidance. He expressed concern that the rapid growth of artificial intelligence, robotics, and other digital innovations might lead some to believe that humanity no longer needs God. Governor Otti reminded the congregation that the wisdom to create and innovate comes from God and urged them to resist the notion that technology can replace faith.
“I’m calling on all of us to extend this discussion on how to repeal and resist that attraction to digital technology that gives impetus to the belief that man doesn’t need God because that wisdom to create was already given by God,” he stated, sparking thoughtful reflection among the attendees.
The event also featured an address by Pastor Bassey Udoh, President of the Eastern Nigerian Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, who highlighted the critical role of digital media in spreading the gospel. Pastor Udoh emphasized the effectiveness of digital evangelism in reaching a global audience and encouraged Christians to utilize social media platforms to share the message of Christ.
“With social media, you can reach anybody, anytime, anywhere, anyhow, and with that, nobody will be left out. When we do this, we would have fulfilled the Bible’s mandate,” Pastor Udoh asserted, urging the faithful to embrace digital tools for evangelism.
Justice L.T.C Eruba, President of the Pastors’ Kids Association of the Eastern Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, also spoke at the event, praising Governor Otti for his exemplary leadership. He noted that Governor Otti, being a pastor’s son, is the only Adventist pastor’s child currently serving as a sitting governor worldwide. Justice Eruba lauded the Governor’s achievements in infrastructure development, financial discipline, and governance and prayed for continued divine guidance in his administration.
The convention, which brought together pastors’ children from across the region, also drew members of the Abia State House of Assembly, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, and other government functionaries. The event underscored the importance of integrity, faith, and the responsible use of technology in advancing the gospel and governance in today’s digital age.
