Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has criticised the quality of work done by the contractor handling the Abua-Odual/Agba-Ndele/Emohua road project, describing it as substandard and unacceptable.
The governor, who spoke during an inspection tour of the project on Tuesday expressed disappointment with the work executed by Messrs Stream Nigeria Limited on the section from the bridge to the East-West Road, accusing the firm of lacking the capacity to deliver the project to specification.

“You can see the level of trekking we did and the manoeuvring before we got to this place.
“One of our priorities is to get value for money. The contractor handling this section is not doing a good job, and I am not happy. When I return, there will be a need to review that contract, because it is obvious they lack the capacity to do the job,” he pointed out
While condemning the contractor’s performance on the road, the governor commended Setraco Nigeria Limited for its “impressive expertise” in constructing the bridge linking Abua/Odual and Agba-Ndele to Emohua, noting that the bridge could be ready for use by the end of January 2026.

Governor Fubara explained that his administration decided to complete the inherited bridge project due to its strategic importance in easing movement and saving travel time for residents of Abua/Odual, Agba-Ndele, Emohua and neighbouring communities.
The Governor noted that the bridge would significantly reduce travel time by providing quicker access to the East-West Road and onward routes to Port Harcourt and the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
According to him, the project fits into his administration’s broader vision of improving connectivity, accessibility and economic development across Rivers State, particularly in agriculturally active areas.
“This will boost our economy because agriculture thrives in this area. Moving goods will no longer be a challenge,” he assured.
Governor Fubara further disclosed that the deplorable Ahoada–Abua road would be prioritised in the 2026 state budget as part of efforts to touch all parts of the state with meaningful development.
