Sowore, Kanu’s Lawyer , Brother, 10 others granted bail

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, and presided over by Abubakar Umar Sai’ld has granted bail to former presidential candidate and Activist Omoyele Sowore; a key member of the legal team of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Aloy Ejimakor; the younger brother of the detained IPOB Leader, Prince Emmanuel Kanu and 10 others

In the ruling, delivered this Friday, October 24, 2025, the defendants who were arraigned for their roles in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration held earlier in the week, were granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000, conditional upon the provision of two sureties of equal value, ensuring accountability while allowing them to prepare defenses outside custody.

The 13 defendants were charged with inciting public disturbance and breaching the peace, as a result of their participation in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration held on Monday.

This judicial decision underscores the ongoing legal battles faced by figures critical of the federal government’s handling of high-profile detentions. The arrests unfolded in the context of a broader protest against the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been held since 2021 on charges including terrorism and treasonable felony.

Recall, on Monday, October 20, 2025, Ejimakor, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and the other 10 co-defendants were detained during the peaceful rally in Abuja, organized to demand the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who has been in custody since the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

While 12 of the defendants were remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility since Monday, Sowore’s arrest, however, took place separately on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, when he was taken into custody at the Federal High Court premises after attending Kanu’s trial.

Meanwhile, latest report indicate that the police rearrested #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest convener, Omoyele Sowore, shortly after appearing before the Kuje Magistrate Court in Abuja and being granted bail alongside 12 others this Friday.

According to reports, Sowore, was bundled into the police vehicle by a team of policemen brandishing arrest warrant and a detention order, an action that has already received condemnation from May Rights groups.
