AFCON 2025: CAS Overturns Decision, Declares Senegal Champions

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has restored Senegal as the the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. winners, consequently overturning a previous unprecedented decision that had declared Morocco that came second as champions.

In the arbitral award dated 10 June 2026 under case CAS 2026/A/10857, the three-member CAS panel accepted the Senegalese Football Federation’s appeal in its arbitration case against the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

The ruling declared that the challenged decision has been set aside and confirms that the result of the AFCON 2025 final “as it stood on the field of play” remains valid. Consequently, Senegal’s men’s national team has been officially recognised as the champions of the tournament.

To this end, CAS ordered that all relevant sporting authorities, including the Confederation of African Football (CAF), must immediately comply with the award and give effect to the decision.

The Ruling makes it clear that the decision is final and binding on all parties in accordance with Article R58 of the Code of Sports-related Arbitration.
