Abia State government says the new Government House building commissioned in the last moments of the former administration of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu is to be converted to a five-star hotel while the old Government House presently in use in Umuahia would be redesigned and reconstructed to serve as a befitting seat of power for the Governor
Commissioner for information, Okey Kanu who announced this after conducting Journalists round the uncompleted parts of the new Government House, insisted that the immediate past administration in the State commissioned an uncompleted structure as the new Abia State Government House.
According to him, an international company would be engaged by the State government to turn the place into an international 5-Star hotel even as he urged Abia people to disregard the statements from the members of the opposition against the present administration.
Prince Kanu lamented that only the ground floor of the government house was completed and furnished, leaving the upper floors and walls abandoned without necessary facilities.
“The government of the day has decided to turn this place into a five -Star hotel.The reason is that this place was not well built,” he stressed.
The Commissioner further pointed out that the new Government House was located inside a residential area where public buildings shared fences with such a high security strcture, exposing the life of any Governor and his family to danger.
He pointed out that the previous administration spent huge State resources on the gigantic house but delivered an incomplete and endangered structure.
Prince Kanu therefore debunked the statements made by the former Commissioner for information, John Okiyi Kalu on a national television where he said that the government house was abandoned by Governor Alex Otti.
