Abia NUJ Chair appointed station manager Zik FM

The Abia State Council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chidi Asonye has been appointed the new Station Manager of ZikFm 96.3, Umuahia.

Announcing this, Mazi Isaac Okoroafo, Chief Executive Officer of Communication Faculties Limited, proprietors of the Igbo speaking radio station explained that the decision was taken , not to please anyone, but as puts it because, “I know you potentially have what it takes to do the job”.

The CEO while congratulating him on his elevation promised to provide his administration with the needed assistance for him to succeed, especially as the 2027 General Elections draw closer.

Comrade Chidi Asonye joined the media outfit about three years ago, as a News Editor and Presenter, and has produced many popular radio programmes, including HooHaa, O Di Egwu, Azum Ahia Di Ire, Ekpere n’Ofufe, among otthers.

He is a prominent figure in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, where he currently serves as the Chairman of the Council, having held various leadership positions within the union.

A seasoned journalist with more than three decades of experience in the field, having worked in several editorial roles, Comrade Asonye popularly known as Father Parrot by his Colleagues is known for his commitment to promoting intellectual development, positive narratives, and innovation, especially among young people.

The Zik FM helmsman had also served as the pioneer chairman of the Unity Federated Chapel of the NUJ in Abia State and could rightly be described as a respected figure in the Nigerian journalism community, dedicated to promoting the welfare of journalists and advancing the profession.
