Abia Govt takes steps to improve e-learning

In order to equip Teachers in the State with a modern system of teaching and eliminate hindrance to contemporary education, the Abia State government has taken steps to eliminate outdated methods in the system.

To this end, Teachers in the State are currently undergoing training on the use of smart board and other digital tools to enable the phasing out of chalkboard, papers and pen in the school system.

The training which commenced on Friday in Umuahia, would involve learning and school management systems for the introduction of smart schools in the State.

Speaking at the training programme, the Executive Chairman, Abia State Universal Basic Education, ASUBEB, Lydia Onuoha and Director for Teachers development in ASUBEB, Okenwa Ugochukwu made it clear that teaching and learning would be conducted in the smart schools that would established across the State.

They revealed that the best among the trained teachers from the 17 LGAs of the State would be in charge of the smart schools in their respective areas, adding that the traditional system of teaching and learning would gradually be phased out.

According to them, those being trained in the ongoing exercise would train other teachers across the State.

” With this training of teachers for the smart schools, we begin the process of moving from chalkboard to smart board,” the ASUBEB Chairman affirmed.

Making further clarifications on the new policy, a member of the training firm, Mrs Orieji Okwara Emele, pointed out that Governor Alex Otti has mandated that Abia children should be taught to compete with their global peers.

She noted that the smart board in schools would be equipped with internet access while students would do their assignments with tablets and other digital tools, not physical books.

Mrs Emele said that the migration to smart schools would also give Abia students comparative advantage as WAEC and NECO prepare to conduct their 2026 examinations through Computer Based Tests, CBT in 2026.

She therefore urged the participants to take the training seriously.
