Abia Govt ready to revolutionize transportation, set to launch Electric Buses

All is now set for the official launch of the first batch of 20-units of Abia State Electric Buses under its Mass Transit Scheme.

Abia state Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who announced this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s executive council meeting at government House Umuahia said that the formal launch of the scheme makes Abia the first to launch a state -owned electric Bus transport Scheme in the country.

According to him, the 50-seater electric Buses were specifically built for the state, adding that another 20 buses will arrive in the state early next year.

While disclosing that a total of one hundred units of the electric Buses will be procured under the scheme, Prince Kanu noted that the electric Bus offers a 400-kilometer driving range on a single charge and are equipped with advanced features such as internal and rear cameras, mobile charging ports, disability -friendly entry system, emergency exits and double fire extinguisher safety points.

The Commissioner noted that the introduction of the electric Buses places State at the forefront of clean mobility, safety -focused mass transit and eco-friendly infrastructure.

On Health,Prince Kanu announced that the Abia state Global Medical Mission in-collaboration with the Abia state Diaspora Medical Personnel, a health care intervention mission commenced yesterday the 15th to end 20th of this month across five Centres in the state.

The Information Commissioner who explained that the medical mission will attend to advanced and complicated surgeries and medical mission in line with Governor Alex Otti’s vision to provide Free and accessible medical services to Abians named the centers to include Abia Specialist Hospital Umuahia, Uzuakoli Methodist Hospital,Okoko Item Adult Care Center, Seventh -Day Adventist Diagnostic Center,Ogbor Hill Aba and Ahiaeke medical center .
