NUJ inaugurates caretaker committee for Abia State Information chapel

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia State Council Chaired by Comrade Chidi Asobye has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee for the State Information Chapel following the dissolution of the chapel’s EXCO whose tenure has expired.

The three-member- committee, is headed by a former chairman of the chapel and Human Rights Activist, Comrade Anyim James Agbai while Comrades Lucky Juliet Meregini and Oluchi Franklin-Oji are members.

Inaugurating the caretaker committee, the NUJ Abia State Chairman, Comrade Chidi Asonye pointed out that the tenure of the former executive of the State Information Chapel expired on 22 March 2025.

Comrade Asonye challenged the committee to galvanize the chapel and conduct elections within the next three months.

He stressed the need to ensure fairness and adherence to the union’s constitution while carrying out their duties.

In his remark, a National Officer of the NUJ, Comrade Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, explained that the idea of a caretaker committee arose following the failure of the former Executive to conduct elections 30 days before the expiration of their tenure.

Ezeogo Okoro therefore advised the committee to unite the chapel and ensure its strength and stability.

Contributing, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Chief Obinna Ibe commended the State council leadership for selecting notable union members as caretaker committee members and emphasized the importance of peace in the State Information Chapel.

Responding, Comrade Anyim James Agbai, Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, assured the state chairman and his executive that they will discharge their duties in strict compliance with the NUJ constitution, promising to remain loyal to the state council.
