Following the gruesome murder of 6 persons in Okporojo in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State including a pregnant woman on the 5th April by suspected Amasiri warriors in neighboring Afikpo Local Government Area of the State, the Ebonyi State command this Friday held an engagement with Stakeholders in the two affected local government areas.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, in a release disclosed that the Commissioner of Police cautioned the Stakeholders to desist from taking laws into their hands and destruction of properties.
The command warned that such would not be tolerated in the communal land dispute, declaring that the area has been declared a buffa zone by the State Government.

The incident which occurred on the 5th April, 2025, according to local sources, may be connected to communal land dispute in Okporojo and other disputed area which the Ebonyi State Government has already declared a buffa zone.
In their accounts, Mr Nkama Okoro and Mr Samuel Imo, chairman Okporojo Development Union, alleged that the Amasiri people have been disturbing their area which of recent resulted to the killing of 6 persons.

They called on the Ebonyi State Government to urgently intervene to restore peace in the area, saying they don’t know what would happen in days to come in their community.
“I don’t know what would happen in the next one hour to Okporojo people as I’m talking with you now.
“Please we are calling on the government of Ebonyi State. We are happy that the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru is someone that doesn’t like killing and destruction.

“We are calling on him to come to our rescue, because this ugly incident isn’t good, we’re dying recklessly, it’s too bad,” Imo Stated.
Meanwhile, Youths of Amasiri Community have petitioned the Ebonyi State Governor over what they described as unlawful military invasion of the community following the communal attack between them and Okporojo people in Edda.
The youths alleged that military personnel are patrolling the community and stopping members of the community from going about their normal business.
