President of GLOBE Legislators, and former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sir Sam Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo, has challenged nations to remain focused on building consensus and advancing practical climate solutions.
Speaking at the ongoing London Climate Action Week, the former member of the House of Representatives stressed the need for collaboration, particularly, at a time when multilateral cooperation faces increasing pressure from global geopolitical tensions.
Rt Hon Onuigbo who participated in two major high-level engagements that focused on advancing climate action, investment and international cooperation, highlighted the broad stakeholder engagement and consensus-building efforts that culminated in the enactment of the Climate Change Act 2021, a landmark legislation that has helped shape climate governance and action in Nigeria.

Addressing the Nigeria Climate Investment Summit, a flagship event of the London Climate Action Week convened by GLOBE Legislators and SOStainability to mobilise climate finance and investment opportunities for Nigeria, the sponsor of Nigeria’s climate act noted that the summit marks the beginning of broader initiatives aimed at strengthening climate action, supporting innovation and creating new opportunities for businesses and investors in the green economy.
The former National Assembly member commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu for announcing plans to host a Lagos Climate Action Week in partnership with GLOBE Legislators, SOStainability and the organisers of the London Climate Action Week, describing the initiative as a major step towards deepening climate engagement and investment across Africa.

Hanto Daily News reports that Rt Hon Onuigbo had during the day participated in the State of Climate Politics Forum organised by E3G at the Mansion House, London, where he joined other global leaders as a panelist on the theme, “Reframing Climate Action in the Face of Divided Politics.”
He joined other distinguished panelists including Agnes Dasewicz, Chief Investment Officer of the Global Energy Alliance; Jennie King, Non-Resident Fellow at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and the Center for Climate and Security; Barbara Buffaloe, Mayor of Columbia, Missouri, United States; Joanne Yawitch, Head of South Africa’s Just Energy Transition Project Management Unit; and Kate Hampton, Chief Executive Officer of The Children’s Investment Fund Foundation.
The summit attracted key policymakers, investors, development partners and climate leaders from across the world. Among the participants were the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu; the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, representing Governor Peter Mbah; Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu; Damilola Ogunbiyi, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General and Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy for All; Dr Tariye Gbadegesin, Chief Executive Officer of Climate Investment Funds; Pablo Vieira, Global Director of NDC Partnership; and the Managing Director of the North East Development Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali, represented by Chief Frank Owhor, among others.

The summit provided a platform to showcase Nigeria’s vast climate investment opportunities and ongoing efforts by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to attract green investment and accelerate sustainable economic growth.
