Yuletide: Dr Oluebube Chukwu Tasks Transport Unions, Safety Agencies on road safety

The Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, Dr Oluebube Chukwu, has called on transport unions and road safety officials to intensify awareness campaigns on the importance of road safety during this festive season.

Speaking with Newsmen in Umuahia, Dr Chukwu noted that the Yuletide usually witnesses heightened road traffic due to the influx of travelers visiting family and friends and stressed the need for Unions and Safety Agencies to work towards ensuring a hitch free celebrations.

He however appealed to all road users, including motorists, tricyclists and pedestrians, to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to ensure their safety and that of others to prevent mishaps and loss of lives that often characterized the period.

The Due Process Boss therefore cautioned drivers against over-speeding, drunk driving and the use of phones while driving or using ill-fated vehicles to convey passengers which had been the case in the past.

While lauding the ongoing efforts of the Abia State government under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, to improve the state’s road infrastructure, Dr. Chukwu noted that the present administration’s commitment to making roads in Abia motorable could only be meaningful when motorists shun reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic rules.

“The Governor has done his part in ensuring our roads are in good condition, but road safety requires collective responsibility. I urge everyone to play their role to make this yuletide season accident-free”,he stated.

He therefore extended his best wishes to all for the festive season and urged Abians to celebrate responsibly while remaining vigilant on the roads,as well as, being security cautious.
