World cup playoff: Field only committed players – Dimeji Lawal advises Super Eagles coach

Former Nigerian international and dazzling winger, Oladimeji Lawal has told the Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle that only selecting the most committed and in-form players for the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon will guarantee Nigeria victory.

Dimeji who was speaking with Completesports, made it clear that emphasised what Nigeria needs now is for the fielding of a squad that will give everything to secure qualification.

According to him, there is no margin for error now as Nigeria looks to secure its place in the tournament.

“The Super Eagles head coach must make the right decision at this stage by inviting players who are prepared to give their utmost effort to help Nigeria qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

“He must invite players who understand the task at hand because they must not jeopardise this second chance of qualifying for the World Cup. Gabon are a good team, but the Super Eagles remain the best,” Lawal noted.

The all important match slated for Thursday, November 13, will be the tenth encounter between the two countries with Nigeria dominating and Gabon recording no win so far.
