There are indications that the State finals of the 2026 edition of the Speaker Enugu State house of Assembly Grassroots Boxing Championship will now hold on the 30th september.
Hanto Daily News reports that the state coordinator of the programme and Boxing Ambassador, Mazi Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, had already written to the relevant authorities for the release of the Enugu State Parliament Hall and Boxing Rings for the event.
The programme which is aimed at showcasing the talents discovered in secondary schools during the grassroots talent hunt exercise that took the committee to all the local government areas of the Enugu State will produce young boxers that will represent the state at various national events.
Speaking with Hanto Daily News Sports, Mazi Okoronkwo expressed confidence that the forthcoming edition of the programme would be a success.
He commended the Enugu state Governor Barrister Peter Mbah, speaker Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Uche c. Ugwu and the 17 local government Chairmen for their cooperation and assistance and called on other South East States to emulate the Enugu State grassroots sports development model.
