Rivers PCRC Assures Corps Members of Safety

The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Rivers State, Mr. Voke Emore, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that the state remains safe under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.

Speaking on Tuesday while presenting a security lecture to members of the NYSC Batch A, Stream I, 2026, at the orientation camp in Nonwa, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State Emore said the current Rivers State Police Command has strengthened security architecture across the state through effective policing and community engagement.

“I want to assure you that Rivers State is safe under the leadership of CP Adepoju as Commissioner of Police,” Emore said.

He explained that the primary responsibility of the PCRC is to build a strong bridge between the police and host communities, noting that the committee is present in over 36 police divisions and operates across nine active area commands in the state.

Emore encouraged corps members to become part of the PCRC, pointing out that membership would provide security support and assistance when posted to their areas of primary assignment.

The PCRC Chairman advised corps members to identify the nearest police division in their communities and connect with the PCRC chairman of the division for support, particularly in cases of accommodation challenges, community-related issues, or security concerns.

“Rivers State is safe, but security is everybody’s business,” he said, urging corps members to be cautious, respect local traditions and cultures, and be mindful of community practices, especially during festivals.

Emore further advised corps members to promptly report security challenges to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), noting that they have the right to request access to the DPO of any police station.

He also encouraged corps members to maintain regular communication with colleagues and friends regarding their whereabouts and assured them that PCRC members were available to offer guidance and support, including through the committee’s social media platforms.

Emore added that corps members experiencing intimidation by any police officer should also report such incidents to the PCRC for appropriate intervention.

Officials present at the event included the Commandant of the Police Training School, Nonwa-Tai, Assistant Commissioner of Police Okere Daniel; retired Deputy Superintendent of Police Moses Nnyam; the State Women Leader of the PCRC, Mrs. Darlene Tasie; and other PCRC members.
