The Senator representing Abia north in the National Assembly, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu has called on all parties in the recent Okon-Aku crisis to immediately cease hostilities, embrace dialogue, and allow constituted authorities and security agencies to facilitate a just and lasting resolution.
Senator Kalu in release issued on Wednesday reminded the people of Okon- Aku that violence only breeds further suffering and stalls progress as well as discourages investment, disrupts livelihoods, and undermines the shared future we all seek.
He commended the swift response of the Abia State Police Command in restoring calm, as well as the sustained efforts of the Ohafia Council of Monarchs, who have intervened repeatedly to mediate and promote reconciliation and challenged Governor Alex Otti, to swiftly intervene by restoring lasting peace in the community, in line with due process, transparency, and the traditions of the Ohafia people.
“The people of Okon-Aku Ohafia are our brothers and sisters, and their pain is our collective pain. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, those who sustained injuries, and all residents who have suffered losses as a result of this unfortunate incident. My thoughts and prayers are with the community during this difficult time.
“Violence only breeds further suffering and stalls progress. It discourages investment, disrupts livelihoods, and undermines the shared future we all seek. I therefore urge all parties in Okon-Aku to immediately cease hostilities, embrace dialogue, and allow constituted authorities and security agencies to facilitate a just and lasting resolution.
“As your representative in the. Nigerian Senate, I stand ready to support any initiative that promotes reconciliation, upholds the rule of law, and guarantees the safety and well-being of every resident of Okon-Aku and the Senatorial District. Okon-Aku, like other communities in Abia North Senatorial District, is dear to me. It is therefore important that we return to the path of peace, unity, and mutual respect that has always defined our people,” Kalu noted.
