NEPWHAN warns against abusing members

Hard time awaits individuals and institutions that abuse and violate rights of people living with HIV/AIDS, key population and other vulnerable groups in Abia state, as the Network of people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, NEPWHAN, has threatened to deal decisively with anyone or group involved in such acts.

The Senior Programme Officer, NEPWHAN, Mr James Atusue who made the declaration at the 3 day non residential GC7 Gender and Human Rights Training Programme mounted in Umuahia, Abia State, said the body will no longer allow.any infractions to be swept under the carpet.

He pointed out that the thrust of the training workshop was to re-equip and re-train Community Rights Advocates, CRA, Community Based Organisations, CBO, and other support group members on how to respond to violation of Gender Human Rights issues in the state

Mr Atusue enjoined people whose rights are infringed to get in touch with CRA, CBO and other support groups to address the such abuses.

He enjoyed the CRA and other trained personnel to step down the training to relevant stakeholders, community members, people living with HIV/AIDS, key population, Adolescent girls and young women and other vulnerable groups in the state.

Mr Atusue further charged Community Rights Advocates to embark on aggressive sensitisation, education and enlightenment of the public on gender and human rights related issues.

Contributing, the State Program/ Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, Chief Whyte Ikocha, who presented paper on Understanding Gender Human Rights Monitoring, called on Abia State Government to domesticate HIV Anti Discrimination Law in the State.
