The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has on behalf of other federal lawmakers of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Congratulated their former colleague Hon. Chief Sam Onuigbo (FCIS,FNIM) who represented Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency on his recent nomination and recognition as a Global Leader on Climate Change by a New York City based Financial Business News Agency known as Business Insider.
The Speaker, Hon. Abbas who read the letter of the agency conveying the nomination and recognition on the floor of the house, described the Abia born experienced Politician and Technocrat as a worthy ambassador of the House of Representatives who has remained at the vanguard of Global Action on Climate Change.
The Speaker recalled that Hon. Onuigbo while serving then as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee in Climate Change, sponsored the Climate Change bill which is now an act during the immediate past administration of former president Muhammadu Buhari, an act which provided the legal framework for building and ensuring a climate friendly Nigeria.
It could be recalled that Hon. Chief Sam Onuigbo who is currently a member of the Governing Board of the North East Development Commission, has spoken at various local and international fora including the International Renewable Agency (IRENA) Assembly in Abu-Dhabi in 2020, the Globe Cap26 legislative forum at the Scottish parliament in 2021, Globe cap legislative forum in Cairo in 2022 amongst others where he aimed at seeking more viable opportunities and platforms that can help Nigeria’s decarbonization efforts, ensure the country’s transition to net zero, pay attention to the menace of climate change, provide funding for adaptation and mitigation measures, create employment for teeming youths, help Nigeria’s journey to green recovery and so on.
