Following Nigeria’s worsening security situation amid attacks and killings across several states, former Labour Party presidential candidate, and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr Peter Obi says the country is “bleeding”
In a statement shared on his official X handle, where. he lamented the continued wave of violence and killings despite assurances from the presidency, Obi lambasted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the worsening security situation in the country, declaring that the President’s recent promise that killings would not reoccur has already been contradicted by fresh attacks across several states.
“Less than 24 hours after Tinubu visited Jos, Plateau State, on April 2, 2026, and assured grieving citizens that this experience will not repeat itself, another deadly attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel community in Jos South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of several residents, he lamented.
While pointing out that within a week of the President’s promise, violence continued to spread to other parts of the country, the former ADC chieftain noted with concern that Nasarawa State was also thrown into mourning after gunmen attacked the Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities, killing at least 11 peoples, forcing residents to flee their homes with several houses were burnt and many persons declared missing.
Chronicling the ugly incidents, the former Anambra state Governor also revealed that about 150 people were also allegedly abducted from Kurfa Danya and Kurfan Magaji communities, Zamfara State in what he described as one of the largest recent mass kidnappings.
Decrying the situation further, he noted that terrorists reportedly attacked Chibok in Borno State, killing four officers and burning houses, while fresh violence in Benue State on Easter Sunday, reportedly led to the deaths of more than 17 people, with many others still unaccounted for.
Reeling out furher statistics, Obi further claimed that another attack occurred in Kaduna State where several worshippers were killed inside churches while others were abducted in the Ariko community of Kachia Local Government Area.
He described the situation as a failure of leadership, regretting that Nigerians are now paying the price with their lives.
“Yet we were told, ‘This experience will not repeat itself.’ This represents a failure of leadership and responsibility, and sadly, Nigerians are paying for it with their lives,” he wrote.
According to him added the continued attacks show that the perpetrators are emboldened by what he described as government inaction.
The former LP Presidentialcandidate reminded the Federal Government that the protection of lives and property remains the fundamental responsibility of any government, warning that the persistent killings across the country signal a national emergency.
Meanwwhile a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Saleh Zazzaga, has blamed the opposition for the killing of about 28 people in the palm Sunday attack in Gariya Waye, Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area and the subsequent increased killing in Plateau State.
The incident heralded a resurgence of killings in the state, leading to fears that the situation could degenerate to a full-blown breakdown of law and order.
In a statement made available to journalists on Monday, Zazzaga, who is also Chairman of the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum, alleged that the killings are aimed at derailing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, and discrediting Plateau State Governor Caleb Muftwang.
The APC Chieftain also linked the insecurity in Plateau State to persons opposed to Muftwang’s defection to the APC.
Zazzaga, further pointed out that the North-Central had pledged six million votes to Tinubu in 2027, alleged that the ongoing killings in Plateau and Benue states are aimed at reducing Tinubu’s vote count in the forthcoming election.
“The ongoing attacks and killings in Plateau State are politically motivated. Those behind these killings are opposition politicians who want to derail Mr President’s re-election in the 2027 elections. These are also people who want to discredit Governor Caleb Muftwang, knowing fully well that they can’t stop his re-election.
“They know that with Governor Muftwang having defected to the APC, the chances are high that Mr. President will get 100 percent of the votes from Plateau State, so they have decided to sponsor violence to prevent that from happening.
“To create the impression that the administration is not performing, these individuals have decided to sponsor violent attacks and killings in defenceless communities. They know the natives are with Mr President and the governor, that is why they are engaging in mass killings, to reduce the native population and by so doing, reduce the votes that would go to Mr President in the coming election,” he claimed.
