Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development, declaring that the state will not be allowed to slide back into political crisis and instability.
The governor made the declaration on Monday while inaugurating the Omademe Internal Roads in Ikwerre Local Government Area, the sixth project inaugurated under the current phase of his project inauguration exercise. He urged political leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to work with his administration to sustain the prevailing atmosphere of peace, stressing that lasting development can only thrive in a stable environment.
Governor Fubara said Rivers State had experienced difficult moments in the past but insisted that his administration had put those challenges behind it and was focused on building a peaceful, united and prosperous future. He called on residents to remain united and work collectively in the interest of the state and the nation.
He maintained that governance should be measured by the value an administration adds to the lives of the people rather than the number of years it spends in office, assuring residents that his government would continue to deliver impactful projects until the end of its tenure.
The governor described the Omademe Internal Roads as another milestone in his administration’s infrastructure renewal programme. The project comprises 10 internal roads covering about 8.6 kilometres, with road widths ranging from six to 7.3 metres. It also includes about 8.7 kilometres of drainage channels and three kilometres of earthfall discharge drains designed to improve accessibility, control flooding and stimulate economic activities within the community.
Fubara said every administration had a responsibility to build on the achievements of its predecessors, noting that while previous governments had executed projects in different parts of the state, his administration was also determined to leave behind enduring infrastructure that would improve the quality of life of Rivers people.
He assured the people of Omademe that their requests for the extension of the road network to neighbouring communities in Etche Local Government Area, improved electricity supply and the rehabilitation of adjoining roads had been noted and would receive government attention.
On the verification exercise of local government workers, the governor said the exercise was aimed at sanitising the payroll system by eliminating ghost workers and ensuring that salaries were paid only to genuine employees. He stressed that although his administration supported employment, recruitment into the local government service must follow due process and should not be politicised.
Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Wobodo Charles, described the Omademe Internal Roads as “roads of peace and healing,” saying the project would ease the transportation of agricultural produce, enhance commercial activities and further open up the area for development. He also commended the governor for the local government payroll verification exercise, saying it had eliminated irregularities and would create opportunities for the employment of qualified workers.
Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, disclosed that the project was awarded to Cedar Construction Limited on February 24, 2025, with construction commencing in November 2025. He said the roads were completed according to approved standards and specifications and would improve mobility, strengthen connectivity and boost socio-economic activities in Omademe and neighbouring communities.
Managing Director of Cedar Construction Limited, Dr. Bobby Elechi, thanked Governor Fubara for entrusting the project to an indigenous company. He also commended the traditional rulers, chiefs, elders, youths, women and OSPAC of Omademe, as well as the Ministry of Works, for their cooperation and support throughout the execution of the project.
