The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has stressed the need for a strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the National Judicial Institute to enhance the professional capacity of police personnel through specialised legal and judicial training.
Speaking when he visited the National Judicial Institute, where he was received by the Institute’s Administrator, Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, alongside the Institute Secretary, Olumo Abdulazeez, and members of the management team, the IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and improving the administration of criminal justice.
He proposed a structured collaboration that would provide continuous training for police lawyers, prosecutors, Investigating Police Officers (IPOs), and other personnel in key areas, including criminal justice administration, electronic evidence, cybercrime, digital forensics, human rights, prosecution advocacy, and case management.
Disu also advocated the development of executive education and professional certification programmes for police personnel, as well as joint seminars, workshops, and research initiatives aimed at strengthening investigative and prosecutorial standards across the Force.
In his response, Justice Adejumo welcomed the proposal and expressed the Institute’s readiness to partner with the Nigeria Police Force in promoting professional development within the criminal justice system.
He also commended the Inspector-General for establishing a police outpost within the Institute and appealed for continued collaboration to further enhance security at the facility.
The visit underscored the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that promote professionalism, strengthen investigative capacity, and improve the administration of criminal justice nationwide.
